Carter at Age 10

Here are a few pictures of Carter’s actual birthday. Keep reading to get all the details about our sweet Carter on his 10th birthday!

Carter Got a PlayStation and a new game for the Switch among other things for his birthday!

Birthday lunch consisted of shrimp because this boy LOVES shrimp!

Requested waffles with powdered sugar for breakfast!

And he will be getting a two layered cookie cake at his birthday party, but he had seen this golden Oreo birthday cake at Publix and wanted it for his actually birthday celebrations at home with our family.

This sweet Carter that we held and snuggled for hours on end as a little 7 pound 13 ounce baby is now TEN!  I don’t know how we have gone so quickly from learning to walk to perfecting the curve on a soccer kick, but here we are and I’m so happy to be along for this!

I absolutely love how sweet the kids act when they give each other their gifts and cards they made each other.  It’s probably my favorite moment of each one’s birthday celebrations.

We celebrated our sweet, compassionate, fun-loving, competitive, athletic, intelligent, math-loving, soccer playing, big thinking, joke telling, baseball playing, guitar playing, basketball shooting, TEN year old Carter this month!  Carter’s turned 10 on April 13th.  He was thrilled that it wasn’t a school day for him on his actual birthday.  We had lots of his favorite things for him to eat on his birthday, and he got to open his gifts from us.  To celebrate his birthday we will be having a party later this month (we are actually doing a joint party for him and Dawson), so on his actual birthday we celebrated just Carter!  We also celebrated by taking him to the Trash Panda’s game! So fun.

At age 10 Carter is sweet and compassionate. I’m proud to say that he frequently thinks of how his actions or words make others feel, and he cares for others.  Carter loves anything fun or funny. He has always loved telling jokes, and he loves to laugh and enjoy every minute of anything fun! Carter loves sports and wants to understand the rules and how all kinds of sports work-even ones he doesn’t play.  This year he played Fall soccer (his favorite sport), then made the All Stars team (so he got to represent Athens in a big tournament down in Dothan), then he played basketball in winter, and this spring he has started a new sport.  Last year when Clayton played baseball Carter expressed interest in wanting to try it. So this spring he is playing baseball.  He’s been great about practicing and now that games are starting, I think he’s really enjoying it!  He is also competitive so not only does he like to win, he likes to work hard to win and do everything possible to make it happen.  Love to see his focus.  Carter’s coach this Spring knew that this was Carter’s first season playing baseball, but after a couple of practices he gave a big compliment and said, “Carter listens and really wants to be the best. I only have to tell him how to change something one time and then he does it and gets even better.” I feel like this is so Carter-he wants to learn how to do something, then perfect it or at least continue attempting to perfect it.  We love watching him play sports.

Another new thing Carter tried this year was learning to play the guitar.  He started lessons back in October and he is still loving learning to play!  He is really good, and I like listening to him practice.  Carter is great about practicing, and he quickly realized that the more he practices the more songs he can learn. So he’s really enjoying adding songs to his notebook that he can play!

Carter continues to excel in school.  Math is the way his brain works.  It comes easily to him and he actually enjoys working through problems.  He also really likes science. ELA is probably his least favorite he says when asked because he doesn’t like having to write a lot.  He works hard on his schoolwork and does very well.  I love to see his focus and how he really enjoys learning new things.  I tell Carter his mind is like a steel trap….he remembers everything!

At age TEN Carter loves his siblings. I love how sweet, kind, patient, and fun he is with each of them.  I love the relationships they all have and we enjoy watching the kids all interact.

I want to remember all the things Carter enjoys at this age, so in no particular order—soccer, baseball, basketball, running, golf, Pokémon, jumping on the trampoline, swimming, playing with Duke, playing with friends at the soccer fields, playing with his friend that lives down the street, riding bikes, riding his electric scooter, math, science, and LEGO.

We love who this sweet boy is, and we enjoy watching him grow, play, learn, and entertain us every day!

Here are a few pictures from Carter’s 10th year!

April 2022

April was one of those months where it felt like it was full of a little bit of everything!  It was a good month though for sure!

We started the month with a visit from Emily, Eric, Zoe, and Zachary.  They have never come to visit us before, and it was really a great visit!!!  Nora Kate and Zoe had a ball together!  Here they are in their matching pajamas!

Nora Kate and Zoe playing with the stomp rocket.

Cousins!

We planted two trees!
Clayton helped with the dogwood in the front yard.
We also planted a red maple in the backyard.

Clayton built this awesome airplane lego set that we gave him for his birthday. He was so proud!!

Baseball season is in full swing!
Carter is playing for the Dodgers and it’s his first season of baseball ever. So far he loves it and is doing really well.

And Clayton’s back for his third season of baseball. This time he’s playing for the Cardinals.  He absolutely loves it and is having a great season too!

Nana and Grandad came to watch both baseball boys play a game.

Archery started for Dawson this month.
He’s really good at it!!

He makes this look easy.

Soccer practice has started for Nora Kate.  The weather has been really back and forth this month-sometimes super cold and sometimes very hot.  Unfortunately on this particular day of soccer practice we almost froze!

I ran the Bridge Street Half Marathon this month!

There’s not much like that great feeling after a race!
The medal was pretty cool!

Baseball is exhausting!
We came in from a game and Clayton laid down like this on the couch.
(I did make him get up and shower, but not until after I snapped this adorable picture)
Nora Kate is playing for Gold this Spring.
She got to pick the team name.
They’re the Golden Girls!

Baseball season is back in full swing and so we are back at the Trash Pandas games!

Dying Easter Eggs in Pajamas
The kids with their Easter baskets!!

On Easter we drove to Orange Beach for our first visit there ever. It was a very impromptu trip, and it was awesome!!!

It was a little cloudy when we arrived, but it quickly cleared off and we had great weather!!

Our quick Orange Beach Trip

The kids thought the wall art was cool in the place we stayed.

Oh how we have missed the sand, sun, and sea.

Our hotel lobby had these cool chairs? Swings? The kids loved them.

It also had a cool pool!

We got in a few rounds of putt putt

We made it to the beach!! They loved that this room had bunk beds

They were really excited that this hot tub didn’t have a sign that said they must be 18 to use it-HAHA!
As you can see Orange Beach wasn’t very busy when we went so we basically had the pools to ourselves.

Hole in one for Dawson!

Hole in one for Clayton

Poop time!

Henna tattoos

I didn’t remember to get a picture of Clayton’s tattoo until we were back home, but he got a Pokémon.

And I even got this one on my ankle

Getting ready for a big game

Show me your game face!

Due celebrated his 2nd birthday this month!!
Happy birthday to the world’s best dog!
We gave him these four pieces of bacon as a birthday treat!
He was thrilled.

Dawson played in a band competition for our area of Alabama. We traveled to Priceville High for him to play in front of judges he has never met before. He scored the best score you could get and earned this medal!!

Other ARS band kids.

See what I mean when I said the weather was very back and forth-a lot of the month was like this-sunny and warm enough to play in the sprinkler.  This dinosaur sprinkler was a big hit!

Sitting at the kids’ baseball games….in the drizzle=hat days.

This is how Nora Kate feels about more hours of watching baseball.
In all seriousness though, they are all good about not complaining and watching hours upon hours of the others’ games and practices.

Dawson had a band concert where they played for the upcoming 6th graders to show them how great band was!

Clayton up to bat!

John and I went on a hiking date this month.
We found this cool cave.

Hike selfie

Everything is so green right now!

Big win = Kona ice!

Doing school with this cool dude

Dawson hiked and camped at Alabama’s highest location-Mt. Cheeha this month!

We have had fun watching hours of soccer by our Golden Girl!

This is what you look like when you go on a field trip to the Birmingham Zoo and then play a soccer game and baseball game.

What a great month! Can’t wait to see what May has in store for us!
