August 2015

August was a month for change as we all began to adjust to Dawson being in school 5 days a week-the biggest change has obviously been for Dawson, but it's been a big adjustment for me and the kids too as we were kind of lost without Dawson at first.  There are still a lot of days that after Dawson goes to school, Carter will say, "But what will we do without Dawson today?" in a sad voice.  While we are REALLY missing him while he's at school, he really seems to be loving everything about kindergarten and we are falling into a new groove at home too.  It's neat to watch Carter and Nora Kate becoming even closer as Carter gets to be the "big kid" to Nora Kate.  These two play together REALLY well, and I'm even able to get a few chores done during their waking hours because they don't always want me to play with them.  They are getting good about playing things the other wants.  For example, the other day I overheard this little conversation:
Nora Kate: Let's play ponies! (translation: my little ponies)
Carter:  Nora Kate, that's not my favorite.  Let's build blocks THEN play your ponies.
Nora Kate: OK!
It's not always that easy, but they really do great together!
Anyway, in addition to adjusting to Dawson being in school, we have did a lot of other fun activities in August too!

Carter and Nora Kate are on a big play doh kick lately.
The especially love it if I let them use toothpicks to connect pieces of play doh.
Nora Kate and Carter were proud that they made play doh suckers here haha!

Still spending TONS of time outside on the new playset.  The glider swing is Nora Kate's favorite.  One day she woke up from nap and reported she dreamed there was a bear on the glider swing swinging BIG! haha! She even dreams about it!

Everyone loves dressing up!

Love these moments when the kids are all just talking about something and I'm just a spectator-love watching their interactions!

The boys love to make these "car lines" and zig zag them through the house!

One of our visits to the library-always a hit!

Spending a little time at the indoor play area in the mall on a rainy morning!

Mall play area!

Nora Kate reading her all time favorite book!

Ready for a day at Dollywood!

First stop in Dollywood-the candy shop!

Dawson always has to try to touch the ducks at Dollywood and he's usually successfully!

Watching the River Rampage Ride before John, Pop, Dawson, Carter, and I rode it!

Trying unsuccessfully to win a Minion!

Carter's first time riding the Kid's Coaster!  Carter and John are in the yellow car and Pop and Dawson are behind them in the orange car!
Carter loved it!

Another first for Carter...riding the Shooting Star now that he's tall enough!

So brave!

Just relaxing at Dollywood with her Pop!

Always have to stop by the BUSY BEES

and the pigs

Tea cups with Lolly and Pop

What a good Pop to ride the pink flying elephant with Nora Kate!

After our day at Dollywood, Lolly and Pop drove back home to Maryville and we checked ourselves and the kids into a hotel in Pigeon Forge.  We all crashed for a late nap and then woke up and headed to the Smokies Baseball Stadium.  We have really been wanting to take the kids to a game but they're all SO late that by the time we drove home after it would make for a super late night and make the next day tough! SO this worked perfectly.  We got there early and it was a special night where the first hundred kids got a jersey so our three all got a jersey.  Then we explored their fun kids area with inflatables!  Enjoyed some yummy ball game food and watched the game!  The kids were SO good and we had a blast!  When we were leaving the usher for our section commented on how he had enjoyed watching our family during the game and how he was getting a kick out of how busy and happy Nora Kate was and how she watched and copied everything her brothers did!

Oh and there were clowns there making balloon animals!
Crazy faces in this picture-it was getting REALLY late at this point1

Smokies tattoos on my three favorite little hands!

When we got back to the hotel which was conveniently right across the street from the stadium, we let the kids watch Curious George on the iPad while we got everything organized for us to go to bed.  They were exhausted, as it was about 11pm at this point.

In addition to our hotel being conveniently located across from the baseball stadium, we were also right next to Bass Pro Shop.  The boys LOVE this place!  They've only been 1 time before and it was way back in December, but they still talk about it so we knew we had to go back!  We got there when they first opened Sunday morning and basically had the place to ourselves (which was TOTALLY different from last time when we went at Christmas and it was REALLY crowded).
Looking at the fish is always a big hit (pictured above).

Nora Kate was afraid of this!

Carter couldn't get enough of the fish!

Of course we had to sit on everything there!

Fun upstairs at bass pro shooting targets.

Nora Kate enjoyed it as much as the boys!

After our morning at Bass Pro we headed over to play putt putt in pigeon forge.
Carter was the first to get a hole in one but wouldn't be still long for a picture.  Dawson got sad that his little brother got a hole in one first, but then Dawson AND John BOTH got a hole in one on this hole!

Carter is the king of silly faces.  Here lately he makes all kinds of faces and will request that I take a picture of him.

One morning Carter and Nora Kate asked if they could sit on the couch and watch tv after Dawson left for school.  I started washing breakfast dishes and came back in to find them sitting side by side under and blanket staring at the tv. They're so sweet together!

I never understood why they had all the dollhouses that kids cannot touch in the kids area at the library...until recently.  Nora Kate will just sit and look into each room and talk about what's in there.  Now I get it...boys don't care, and girls love it!

Carter has been doing A LOT of popsicle stick art.

And stomp rockets! Look how high he can launch that thing?!

Nora Kate LOVES her cousin Baby Zoe.  She talks about her alllllll the time.
Here Carter and Nora Kate couldn't stay away from Baby Zoe when she was swinging on Nana's screened porch.

As a special treat for Dawson this month, John and Grandad took him to get his very first set of full golf clubs!  Dawson was so excited.  They had to have a little backyard lesson immediately after getting home!

I took Carter and Nora Kate to the Muse one rainy morning while Dawson was at school.  This air tube is always a hit!

Carter LOVED the space ship!
We met Charlie and Olivia there, but I'm sad to say I didn't get any pictures with the two of them in the pictures!

Nora Kate got this cool girly tent for her birthday.  We had Harper over for a playdate and Carter, Nora Kate, and Harper all enjoyed it.  (Carter was not in the mood to have his picture taken at this moment!)

Dawson had his picture day for school this month!  Here he is ready to leave for school in his outfit for picture day.  I love this handsome boy!

Our sweet friend Olivia had a 3rd birthday princess party this month and we were invited!  Here's Nora Kate getting her hand painted while Olivia watches.

The kids at the princess party with Cinderella.

Carter had to give Olivia a birthday hug!
After Olivia's party, John took the boys to play putt putt while Nora Kate and I went shopping in Turkey Creek.  Then home for naps.  After nap we drove to the mountains to swim in the river with Lolly and Pop.
Lolly got a lot of great pictures which I need to get, but here is one I got.  The water got deeper toward the middle and the kids swam, but they also enjoyed just wading in it.  Here they are painting with rocks...

Carter and Nora Kate ask me to do art almost every morning after breakfast!
Carter and Nora Kate told me they were building a nest in Nora Kate's birthday tent.  Lots and lots of giggles and I peeked in to see these sweet faces!

Carter, Nora Kate and I visited Mamaw one morning.

When John works late, the kids always ask to eat dinner in the club house.  They LOVE getting to do this!

We found this HUGE mean looking caterpillar in our yard!
That ruler is in inches! Yes, he was about 5 inches long!  Yuck!

One weekday morning we met friends Colt and Alana at the zoo!
It's still so weird for me going to the zoo and doing all this stuff without Dawson because he's at school.

The kids got to touch this snake while we were there!

Allllll summer long Carter has asked me if we could go bowling every time we drove by Crest Bowling Lanes.  He had never been.  I kept promising we would, but we didn't get around to it until August!  If you can't tell from this picture-he was just a little excited! (by the way, check out those bowling shoes-I thought he was too cute in them!)

Dawson has been bowling a couple of times before and was excited to go again!

John was good at teaching Carter.

Nora Kate even got a couple little lessons from Daddy.

In the month of August we had lots of friends with birthday parties.  John took Dawson to this party at Chuck-E-Cheese and text me this picture.  Dawson had a great time-despite the expression in this picture!

August. Another great month in the books!
