Nora Kate requested a very fancy tea party for her fifth birthday celebration. She wanted to have it at our house and just have girls (and her brothers). At first I wasn't sure about having it at our house since the house we are renting while building does not have a lot of extra space and it is oh-so-hot outside, but since this was her request I thought we would give it a try. It honestly went really well. (Girls are so much calmer than boys! I can't imagine having that many boys inside for a party and using my good china, haha!) That was her other request to use real china dishes and tea cups "from your wedding, Momma." So we decided to give her just what she asked since it seemed to perfectly suit her and be reasonable. She loved it!
We invited lots of girl friends over, the invitation instructed them to wear their tea party dresses and hats and they all did...Nora Kate LOVED how fancy everyone looked! Seriously, this was so special to her.
Our plan was that when everyone arrived we would spend the first hour getting fancy for the fancy tea party...first we made our nails fancy...we had lots of polish choices and I (along with my friend Julie) polished the nails of all the girls.
We let the "smell fancy" by picking out one lotion or perfume to have put on. They all took vey seriously the task of smelling each scent to select which fancy "smell" they wanted.
Then the girls got fancy jewelry, boas, and tea party hats. (these were also their party favors so they got to take them home!) John took the boys fishing at the neighborhood lake during the first part of the party, but when they got back and Carter saw all the kids had hats he just HAD to have one too!
The girls all looked so fancy with their nails done, boas, jewels, hats, and fancy scents! NOW we were ready for a tea party!
I couldn't believe that with all these kids not a single piece of our good china got chipped or broken! They were SO careful and it made Nora Kate feel so special to get to use it for her birthday party. I'm so glad I allowed her to use it. This was probably my favorite time we have every used our good china!
We made real, hot tea (caffine free) for the girls to try. It was raspberry. Only one of the kids liked it, but they were all really good sports to all try it! We showed them how to do the tea bag and we poured the hot water for them. When they didn't like the tea we gave them pink lemonade instead.
Nora Kate wanted her birthday cake to be a cookie cake with a pink tea pot!
We had Nora Kate snap a picture of the Moms at the party! Not the best photo angle, and you can tell it was the end of the party (hence all the toys out), but so fun getting dressed up with everyone!
Birthday girl
On her actual birthday, she wanted peanut butter toast for breakfast...with a candle of course!
Nana and Grandad's gifts were a hit. She was thrilled to get a package in the mail, even more thrilled with it was shimmery unicorn shoes and a stuffed animal unicorn (that she's slept with every nice since then!)
