October started off with great fun as we spent the first several days of the month in our favorite vacation spot-Cape San Blas! The trip I posted on previously extended from the end of September through the beginning of October. When we got back from our trip the kids were in full Halloween-mode. Clayton has alway been very interested/slightly scared of spooky things to the point that he likes them, if that makes any sense at all?
So when he saw these skeleton pajamas he (along with Carter) just HAD to have them. These two brown eyed boys both like spooky stuff.
We had several science experiments to do this month with the school curriculum. This one Carter enjoyed was seeing how the noise from hitting a baking sheet would make rice on the saranwrap on the bowl move...sound waves!
Three of our four pumpkins. The kids had fun carving and decorating these!
The big three have been running and logging miles for the Rocket City Kids Marathon in December.
They're so fast! Here they are outrunning me!
Soccer hasn't quiet wrapped up but here we are at basketball evaluations!
That's Carter dribbling around the cones.
Carter breaking apart rocks during another science experiment.
And another science experiment...watching the moisture leave these apple slices in little droplets as they hung in the sunny window for a few days.
This sweet funny boy! Oh does he keep us laughing (and on our toes!)
Most of the month was super hot, but on one cooler morning we headed to the Cook Museum (a new fav) to celebrate the end of the first 9 weeks of school! WE (meaning me and the kids) did it! One 9 weeks under our belt with our new hybrid schooling.
Pumpkin carving. This picture is pretty much everyone's role in the family.
Dawson is doing the true hard work.
Carter appears to be instructing him on it.
Nora Kate gave it a try and has on the write attire for the job (apron), but also is not enthused with the actual work and gross-ness of the job.
Clayton has taken a tool from the job and is eyeing what else he can get into with said tool.
Right after we got back from the beach Lolly came to visit!
She helped me take the kids roller skating at Insanity Skate Park while she was here. The kids were thrilled. They took so many topples even with the skate-mates, there were even some tears, but they enjoyed skating and despite the bruises have been asking to go back.
We love all the fun things our neighborhood has!
Here we are at the clubhouse for the neighborhood Halloween party.
John was soap and I was a loofa!
Dawson was a wobbly man/wind dancer...he requested this costume and was SO into it! It made it really fun. He even won our neighborhood costume contest and got a chickfila gift card for winning!
Carter told us months ago that he wanted to be a storm trooper again this year, so there's our storm trooper.
Nora Kate was a beautiful mermaid...with glitter in her hair which I think was the favorite part of it all.
And Clayton was Buzz Lightyear-the helment was his favorite accessory too-the wings (which aren't even on in the picture) were his least favorite.
Some cookie decorating at the party.
Clayton loved looking at our jackolantern
Dawson and his soccer coach. Soccer started back in the very end of July and ended at the end of this month.
I'm not sure why I have so many picture of Clayton eating. Despite an open mouth he looks so cute I can't resist posting.
Nora Kate's soccer team the lime lightening at the end of their season. We started the season in 100plus temps and finished with a very cool temp evening game. These girls played so well together and it really was a good team! NK loved it!
Then on Halloween it was super windy and cool (after it had been hot all week). We were not accustomed to these temps and it felt especially cool out trick or treating. Here we are in front of our house ready to head out. The kids got SO MUCH CANDY!
I'm always so impressed with Dawson's art skills. He painted this in the art class he goes to on Wednesday mornings.
John continues to take the kids fishing in the neighborhood lake frequently.
Carter with his two coaches. Carter had a great season too and played SO hard!
NK and her coach.
I always make this snack-y dinner for the kids on Halloween. Here are their mummy dogs (pigs in a blanket), jack o lantern orange, and ghost string cheese.
Carter and Clayton walking around the dinosaur playground.
During Lolly's visit she got to watch the kids play soccer games! They were so excited for her to watch them!
Dawson's newest talent-playing the trumpet. The last week of October we got Dawson's trumpet and he started taking lessons. If you see that red stick at the bottom of this picture, it's Clayton's light saber...every time Dawson plays, Clayton points his light saber and yells "to the kingdom!" It's pretty hilarious! We have already had to set some practice rules...like no practicing before 7:30am!
Lolly at Nora Kate's soccer game!
The wobbly man in costume!
Dawson thought it was funny to stand between our two inflatable Halloween decorations since he was also an inflatable.
Dawson with Lolly at the soccer field.
Dawson with his new trumpet! He is SO SO excited.
Soccer field!
I signed these three up for the Monte Sano 1 Mile Kids run earlier in the month, well it was one of two days that we had a really cold snap and they ended up running in really cool temps. They were champs about it though and ran so fast! All three set PRs! Nora Kate ran the whole thing which is a big deal for her because she doesn't love hills and since this was up on the mountain, it was hilly!
Carter is so funny!
When we came back from the beach and had to get back to real life of doing school work, He came in the office (our classroom) dressed in a Mario Halloween costume with a Spiderman mask.
Decorating Halloween cookies!
At the cook museum...this is the favorite attraction for my kids!
Our silly pumpkin!
Our spider pumpkin.
For PE sometimes we bike the .8 of a mile to the neighborhood playground, play, then bike the .8 back to the house. It's a good break in our day and great exercise for everyone...especially now that Clayton can ride longer distances on his bike.
This was a very fun month with lots of activity and exciting events from vacation to Lolly's visit to soccer to just time outside and of course Halloween!
