It seemed like our calendar got especially crazy in April and won’t calm down until the week after school is out! For the most part, the crazy schedule is composed of mostly fun activities. It just all seems to happen at the same time. In April baseball really ramped up for Clayton between practices and games beginning. He LOVES baseball and I can see improvement from one game and one practice to the next.

April was a big month for Dawson too.
He had numerous Boy Scout Activities between their fundraiser of selling Chicken Stew and volunteering at a few events.
He also had his Bridging Ceremony!
He bridged over from Cub Scouts into Boy Scouts, so now he’s an official Boy Scout.

After church we came home and made a feast-mixed veggies, homemade rolls, corn on the cob, salad, baked potatoes, green bean casserole, ham, and a bunny cake!

Thankful we got to go to church this year on Easter after last year everything was closed on Easter due to COVID.

Clayton was SO excited about his candy in his Easter basket. He couldn’t wait to dig in.
We took the kids to Harmony Park Drive Thru Safari one Saturday evening.
We took Dawson there ten years ago, but he obviously doesn’t remember so it was a new experience for all the kids. They loved it.

Nora Kate wasn’t entirely sure about the giant animals sticking their heads in our van at first, but she warmed up to it. She did say, however, that one day when she’s a vet she will not be a vet for animals that big!

The kids LOVE it when our science lessons have hands on experiments, but for some reason we usually end up having a couple going at the same time.
We started our seeds for the garden this month. We still have some cold nights in the forecast, so we opted to start them indoors. I couldn’t figure out where to put them, but then realized our bathtub worked perfectly since it’s under a big window. Thankfully we got them out of the tub and into the garden as soon as we could!
Nora Kate yelled for my one day, “Oh no! The potty is smoking!” So I go running. Haha, funny joke girl.
Carter also yelled for me, “Oh my! There’s water coming out of the bathroom.”
He had cups of water lined up as if it was marching out of the bathroom....very funny.
We had taken the kids to Dave and Busters once after they opened and before Covid hit, and they’ve been really wanting to go back. So one Saturday night in April, we masked up and went back. They had a blast playing arcade games.
Carter got a special Sprite with a light up ice cube at Dave and Busters.
We knew Carter’s birthday was going to be one of the craziest busy days we had this month. We had a baseball game, soccer games, Alabama State testing at school which totally changed their school hours for the day, and a few more things. So we took Carter out for his birthday dinner the night before his birthday. We went to our favorite pizza place-Village Pizza on the Square.
Carter and Nora Kate are not on the same team, but they both ended up being on the blue team this Spring.
Carter absolutely loves soccer and had begged to get to play again this spring (Even though we typically take spring off of soccer).

Nora Kate is a good midfielder and striker. The one position she does not like to play is goalie. She ended up having to play goalie for 3 or 4 games this spring-thankfully she only had to be goalie for 1/2 the game when she did, then should would get to do an offensive position the rest of the time. She’s a good goalie and I encouraged her in that, but she said she doesn’t like it because 1-she doesn’t get to do as much, 2-she is afraid the ball will hit her in the face, and 3-the gloves make her hands hot! HAHA!

I’ve had some beautiful sunrises on my runs lately.
This was one morning running around the lake.
Normally I run and get back before the kids wake up, but one day I didn’t and Nora Kate had set this ice water on the drive way complete with name label for me when I returned.

It was so fun. I used to go with John all the time and drive the cart, but then I got replaced by Dawson and Carter. Haha! Now everyone is old enough to go along and either drive/ride, or play.

April 23rd we celebrated Duke’s birthday!
The kids thought Duke deserved a chalkboard sign and a pup cake (cupcake).
We made him this pup friendly cupcake recipe.

One day in April we took the kids to Top Golf. We told them they could order their favorite-pretzel bites and a special drink. The big boys ordered sprite. Clayton requested Coke (what?! Caffeine? Haha) Nora Kate asked for a strawberry lemonade. We assumed it would come in a regular plastic kids cup with lid. They brought her this fancy drink. She felt very fancy.

We went out to eat dinner one evening at Fulin’s and Clayton tried and mastered chop sticks!

About a year ago the boys bought this remote control boat from Cabelas. It quit working and got put in the closet where we had forgotten about it. Dawson got it out one day in April and fixed it. Here they are excitedly driving it around the lake in our neighborhood after he fixed it! It works great!
One exciting thing that happened this month that there is no picture to go along with is that John took and passed his next level HR exam. He now has his SPHR. Congrats!
The very last day of April we left for the beach so I’ll include that in another post.
April was sure busy between baseball, soccer, state testing, John’s testing, Boy Scouts, Carter’s birthday, and more-but we had a blast! And enjoyed the warmer temps! On to May!
